Pulse of Heroes book one

Winner: "Best Indy Book of 2011" by Paranormal Reads!!!!

A suspenseful, passionate, paranormal romance that sweeps through the emotions of first love and heartache as it traverses centuries and continents.

Michelle used to feel like she was behind in everything, especially school and relationships. Her great aunt from the old country says she is like a bland meal, "no salt or pepper". But in junior year, everything changes. Her father takes a position on the Town Council, a popular boy in school becomes interested in her, and most importantly, the Hekademos Learning Center, a private school for 'troubled' students, moves into her quiet neighborhood amidst the protests of the entire town.

After seeing the School Regent out with a group of young guys just before Christmas, Michelle is convinced that there is something odd about them. Her curiosity gets the better of her and she embarks upon a mission to figure out what is really going on. After an embarrassing fall over the school wall, Michelle meets Elliot and her ordinary 'bland' life changes its course forever.

Elliot is no ordinary human. In fact, no one at the Hekademos Learning Center is. Beautiful and fierce, they have survived throughout the millennia by weaving in and out of human events. Through them, Michelle learns that history and myths from around the world are dotted with references to their kind. Michelle falls madly in love with the ever-striking and mysterious Elliot and, as much as he tries to fight it, he develops powerful feelings for her as well.

Although Elliot carries numerous painful memories from his many pasts, he disregards his own better judgment and the advice of his friends, and finds himself falling for Michelle's offbeat personality. Their feelings grow in intensity, but when History catches up with them, the difference between their life paths threatens to destroy any future that they might have had together.

Michelle learns that there are infinite shades of gray between black and white, and has to deal with the bundle of contradictory emotions called love. After some unexpected twists during a family trip to Europe, she has to trust her intuition in order to face the danger and uncertainty of being drawn into Elliot's wondrous world. Ultimately, it is up to Michelle to make the split-second, life-altering decision that will either tear them apart forever, or give them another chance.

Of Blood and Pulse (The Pulse #2)

Of Blood And Pulse picks up the story right where Pulse Of Heroes left off...

After a rocky start, Michelle and Elliot's relationship seems to be teetering on nothing but a few fraying strings, despite the great love that they both feel for one another.

Haunted and scarred by the events of the past year, they both suffer from traumatic consequences. To complicate things even further, someone who knows far too much about Elliot shows up unexpectedly, bringing revelations that even Elliot as a 4700 year-old immortal has a hard time grasping. This visitor’s mere presence adds yet another strain to the couple’s already fragile relationship.

However before Michelle and Elliot can remedy and mend their love, they must heal themselves, and that task will not be as easy, or as safe, as it seems. Join Michelle and Elliot on an epic life-and-death adventure that will take them to the four corners of the world in search of the key to their survival.

When Smiles Fade - Paige Dearth

WHEN SMILES FADE

Emma was unloved from the moment she was born. Her earliest memory is being severely beaten by her father, Pepper Murphy, when she was eight-years-old. Seething with resentment over the sacrifice of his dreams for a woman he cares little about and children he never wanted, Pepper chooses to blame his oldest daughter. Her mother, Valerie, makes matters worse with her verbal abuse, leaving Emma isolated with a man that had no boundaries in punishing his daughter, taking his abuse to unimaginable levels.

Emma's father's coldblooded beatings and the ultimate abuse to which he subjects her, lays the foundation of the person she becomes. As she matures into a resourceful teenager, she is unwilling and unable to stifle her desire for revenge. Reaching her breaking point she can no longer control the impulse to fight back and finally takes matters into her own hands.

Having learned the art of hatred from her father and the mastery of manipulation from her mother, young Emma now sets out to make a better life for herself, leaving the memory of the abused child she had once been behind her. Hardened by the heartless brutality she encounters and the dangerous situations she must overcome in the course of her journey, she faces every challenge that comes her way in her quest for a normal life for herself and for those she loves.

Finally a person emerges from within that guides her toward a better life until she learns of a secret that sets her on the path of ultimate redemption.

My review

Paige Dearth has a way of writing that certainly makes you appreciate what you have in life. The story is no way near for the faint at heart, makes you think how good you have life and how sad but true child hood abuse is. The cruelty of people and the lives they lead can certainly not always determine the path they take in life.

Many will find this story morbid and depressing, but the realism of this story is that this happens to many chilren and child hood abuse is still happening.

Of course the book is fiction, but the scary and sad part is that these kinds of things happen in real life.

People who have suffered child hood abuse may not warrant this story. But Paige certainly does not candy coat her stories and she certainly tells them how it is. The downright realism is heartbreaking and cruel.

Paige has a way of keeping the reader feel as though you are there. If you’re an emotional reader, you will shed tears; feel anger and heartbreak for the characters along the way.

The story is a touching and powerful story about abuse and its effects. How one even though life has dealt you such cruelty that life can be changed and certainly a journey to a better one.

The imagery has depth given to the story and the words are powerful which in turn gave this story a life of its own.

Paige has entwined characters from her first book within this one. It is not at all necessary to read the first book of her * Believe like a child * to read * When Smiles Fade * but you can see and follow along within this story.

Paige certainly writes a story filled with angst, hurt, emotional torture, cruelty and life. Nothing is ever glossed over, and Paige certainly knows how to bring emotions out in her stories.

( Honestly - I hate the cover – as a mother it makes my heart break – but once again Reality sucks and these things do happen) many tend to turn a blind eye to what happens around them. But keep in mind that this story can be true and that alone is HEARTBREAKING, true, and downright gritty and shameful.

Paige’s stories always leave you thinking about them for days after you have read them.

I wont go into the storyline - read the blurb and it gives you a gist of whom the story is about. My review is how this story made me feel as I read it and overal my thoughts and my own opinions.

Unleash - Felicity Heaton Book Review & Giveaway

Unleash

by Felicity Heaton

A powerful vampire lost deep in his bloodlust, Snow is a savage animal, mindless with rage and a thirst for violence, and trapped with no hope of awakening from an endless nightmare… until a song draws him up from the abyss, restoring his sanity but leaving him haunted by the sweet feminine scent of lilies and snow, and fragmented familiar lyrics.
When the mysterious and beautiful songstress reappears in Snow’s room at Vampirerotique, she awakens a fierce protective streak and stirs dark desires that drive him to claim her as his female, even when he knows his touch will destroy her innocence.
A single forbidden taste is all it takes to unleash emotions in Aurora that she shouldn’t possess, tearing her between duty and desire, and luring her into surrendering to her wildfire passion and embracing hungers that burn so hotly they threaten to consume them both.
One act of kindness can lead to one thousand acts of sin though, each a black mark against the bearer’s soul and another grain of sand that slips through an hourglass. The clock is ticking and time is almost up. Can beauty save the beast?

My review

Unleash is an intense, wild rollercoaster ride with fiery characters, tortured souls and a past that pulls at the heart strings.

I was given an Arc of Unleash and have to say I devoured it. I’m sure that I was not the only one awaiting the arrival of Snow's story. ** sigh **

Felicity certainly did not disappoint in this much awaited instalment.

We see a different side to Snow we have never seen and I have to say he is just pure ** Smoking Hotness**.  Perfectly flawed - sexyliscious and a soul that just needed a little understanding.
Many a times I felt for Snow - his past that still haunts him, his future that awaits him and a woman who is willing to look past his past flaws just to love him. I have to say that many a times, my heart broke for Snow - reliving past mistakes seemed to take its toll on his overall willingness to believe he deserved something more.

I loved Aurora's such caring side. I have to say this is my favourite book in this series, and will be re-reading it again.

Her character was certainly not flawless; she was angelic in her own ways more than the celestial beings that ended up in the end of the story.

Snow and Aurora are from two different worlds, but when the chemistry becomes apparent neither can stop it. Aurora‘s constant faith in Snow just gave me Goosebumps. I think she is one of my favourite characters to date. So very brave, loving and strong. Beautiful inside and out and willing to do anything to save him, and his soul. (( sniff sniff )

But a love like this - there is consequences. The one above is not impressed and will wreak havoc on both Snow and Aurora testing Snow like no one has ever.

The romance sub-plot between Snow and Aurora weaves its way throughout the story. The romance is gradually paced and the love is just sizzling. Hot and downright – Volcanic ….. You will feel the steam wafting off the pages. I had to say I was just a tad jealous of Aurora at times ;) grins.

Overall, if you love romance stories and characters with enough depth to match the action, suspense and kick arse scenes. Then this story is for you.

Unleashed is packed to the brim with a strong plot. Memorable characters with a loveable heroine and a kick arse strong and caring Vampire. Who certainly knows how to protect the ones he loves, right till the very end.

Felicity Heaton once again weaves her magic in this instalment - giving us vivid descriptions throughout, memorable characters, and characters brought forth from previous instalments.

This is a full length novel, and I have to say -----

The best yet in this series.

A must read.

AUTHOR BIO

Michael Siemsen struck it big with his debut novel, The Dig, a paranormal archaeology thriller that reached Amazon and Barnes & Noble’s Top 100 Bestseller lists, and spent weeks as the #1 Science Fiction book in 2011. Its success allowed him to escape his soul-leeching job and work as an author full-time. The sequel, The Opal, was released a year later, and the third and final book is in the works. His new novel, released in March of this year, A Warm Place to Call Home (a demon’s story) is a departure from his Matt Turner Series.
Michael has been featured by Barnes & Noble, been reviewed on several major blogs and sites such as Penny-Arcade and Boing Boing, and received a glowing recommendation from author Charlaine Harris.
He is currently at work on the prequel to A Warm Place to Call Home (which should be released this winter) while enjoying spending more time with his family, lazy dog, and mentally-unstable cat in the San Francisco Bay Area.
